The Asplenium antiquum Leslie is dressed for a leading role in an Elizabethan costume drama with its frilly ruff fronds. Slightly more hardy than other bird’s nest ferns it will still appreciate a degree of humidity in the home.

Twist and turn! Remembering to rotate this fern occasionally will help to create a full, even growth.
Don’t leave me high n’ dry! Browning on the frond tips is caused from a lack of humidity in the air. Moving to a humid room or frequent misting will prevent this.
Remove excess dust with a damp cloth, however take care to avoid tender new fronds. Do not use leaf shine as the fronds are sensitive to chemicals.
Light
The Bird’s Nest Fern prefers moderate, indirect light. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight and deep shade. An east or north-facing window will serve the fern best.
Watering
Water thoroughly during the growing season but less so in the winter. Keep moist but do not allow to stand in water. Bird’s Nest Ferns are best watered around edge, directly onto the soil, as pouring into the crown may cause it to rot.
Temperature
Asplenium Leslie benefits from cool to average household temperatures between 16°C and 21°C. Avoid draughts.
Humidity
The Crested Bird’s Nest Fern does not like hot, dry conditions. Try to maintain at least some degree of humidity by misting regularly or relocating to steamier rooms. This plant is ideal for the bathroom or kitchen.
Feed
Does not require a lot of extra feeding. Apply a weak solution occasionally during the growth season.
Height & Growth Rate
This Bird’s Nest Fern is slow growing and has an ultimate indoor height of around 60cm, spreading to around 45cm. It can grow larger, but only in very humid conditions.

Asplenium Leslie is native to Eastern Asia.
